"Our Chalet looks fantastic, but it wasn't always the case. Just under a year ago we completed on a small chalet in Chamonix. We knew from the start that it needed a decent amount of renovation work and we also had a vision of how we wanted the end-result to look and work for us. We met Justin from Pangea in London and straight away it was obvious that he was experienced in both renovation and management and living and working in the Valley; taking his past property experience from London to the Alps. We had much fun going through the renovation plans many times to make sure that the end-result was right, as well as finding unexpected issues along the way. For example it became clear that the existing electrics were out of date and not up to standard. We also found damp issues and some generally poor quality work that had been previously done. However, none of this fazed Justin in the least. It became clear that it needed to be completely taken back to basics to then renovate from the core structure. We also wanted to be sympathetic to our neighbours who live close, while trying to keep the cost as reasonable. Some things in the valley can be extremely expensive relative even to London. Post completion Justin soon had the demolition team on site and within 2 weeks it had been stripped bare and carted away with a minimum of fuss. Over the next five months it was a hive of activity, walls were moved, floors dug up, ceilings changed, bathrooms were created and the whole chalet was transformed from a dated 1970s chalet to a sparkling up to date, functional and beautiful home. The space has been used to maximum effect and now flows well with the addition of a TV room and a dining area. The standard of workmanship and finish is impressive; we both insulated and re-clad many walls with wood which looks great. Bathroom tiling and sanitary ware were fitted to a very high standard. The electrics all now work well, with internal light sensors providing efficient usage and a new oil boiler providing just enough heat in all rooms. We always felt that Justin and his team were on top of the issues and a slew of regular emails and photos gave us the comfort that all was proceeding as planned and discussed. We never had any issues with any of the work carried out and Justin has a critical eye that steers the quality of the outcome and ensures that the customer is satisfied. We also had a UK carpenter make some internal wardrobes and bunk beds and this was never an issue in terms of the two teams working seamlessly together. Our staircase was handmade in the valley and looks fantastic, truly an original piece of work created from old wood. Our snagging list was never an issue and truly minor in the grand scheme of the work done. We are extremely happy with the outcome of our project and Justin took all of the pain out of the experience. It would be impossible to self-manage a project like this from London and the quality of the finish would be very different. I also feel that we got decent value for money working with Justin. From the beginning, we had a budget in mind and apart from changes that we had to make, whole new electrics, boiler, boot warmer spring to mind, I am sure that we came in on target. We still have some work to do outside the chalet and we look forward to working with Justin on these this year. It also should be noted that Mimi at Pangea was excellent in helping us sort out many of the issues with utility companies and the local authority. As non-French speakers, this could be a real issue for us. Our overall experience with Pangea was first class and I doubt if anyone else in the valley could have provided a better end-result and value for money. I would be very happy to recommend Justin and his team to anyone else embarking on a similar project."
