Followers of our updates will know that the Pangea team are off to a busy start to 2022, having been engaged on five separate projects for a Client in Moussoux, Chamonix. Each project has a different specification and schedule of works, each with their own unique challenges.

The first of the projects was the conversion of an old outbuilding into a self contained apartment, complete with kitchen, mezzanine bedroom, bathroom and living area. You can read more about that project here. The second project is another unusual conversion, this time of a former storage facility within the grounds of the client’s impressive Chalet in Moussoux – one of the regions most sought after areas.

Ski preparation and storage area

This time, Pangea were asked to help transform the unused storage space into a fully functioning “wellness” suite. This was to incorporate a sauna, bathroom facilities, a ski preparation area and storage areas for ski equipment. These types of facilities are a common request amongst our renovation clients and we have a well established network of local builders and designers to call upon to create them.

With any large project, the first step is to examine the existing infrastructure and upgrade it as needed. As is generally the case when renovating an older building, it was essential to first update the water, waste and electrical supplies. These were not sufficient to withstand the demands of modern living and needed to be replaced across the board under our team’s supervision.

It also became apparent that the underlying structure itself was not sufficient to support everything our client had envisaged. Working with our architects and our building colleagues, we decided to incorporate strong steel frame supporting beams to provide crucial strength and reinforcement throughout the building. This allowed for the creation of a car parking area above.

With the structural issues addressed, the interior renovations could then begin. These consisted of new periphery windows and doors to allow ample natural light into the space, complete periphery internal insulation to increase the building’s energy efficiency, a full electrical rewire to support modern appliances and the installation of new bathroom, sauna and ski preparation joinery. The beautifully engineered real wood finishes can be seen in the photos and speak for themselves.

The fabulous new wellness suite is now almost ready for handover to our client. We are currently in the process of furnishing & dressing the facilities and will follow up with some stunning professional photos when available. In the interim, here’s a quick peak at what we have achieved.
